[Saba Sports News] LeBron James may not be on track to secure a fifth NBA title with the Los Angeles Lakers this season, but according to one reporter, the team might be considering trading him to a contender. KTLA sports anchor David Pingalore reported that Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka is actively looking into trade options for James, with the team reportedly nearing an agreement with a potential buyer. The move to trade LeBron is apparently a key focus for the Lakers as the Feb. 8 trade deadline approaches.
Despite Pingalore’s relatively modest following of just over 11,000 and not being a widely recognized NBA insider, his track record with major basketball news in Los Angeles, including being among the first to report on Kawhi Leonard’s move to the Clippers in 2019 and having accurate information on LeBron’s Lakers signing in 2018, lends him some credibility.
The Lakers have been performing inconsistently this season, maintaining a record around .500, and LeBron himself has voiced concerns about the team’s championship viability. Another prominent NBA reporter has also recently questioned James’ future with the team.
Given these circumstances, if Pelinka and the Lakers’ leadership doubt their ability to compete for a championship with James, exploring trade opportunities for the 39-year-old star could be a logical step. Despite questions about what the Lakers could receive in return due to LeBron’s age, his ongoing strong performance, averaging 24.9 points, 7.7 assists, and 7.5 rebounds per game, suggests a beneficial deal could be achievable for all involved.
