[Saba Sports News] The Los Angeles Lakers are adopting an innovative approach to reverse their recent losing trend. In a significant lineup change, they’re positioning the 38-year-old LeBron James as the primary point guard. This move comes as the Lakers face a four-game losing streak, with their recent defeats averaging a 10.5-point margin.
For their upcoming game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Lakers are reportedly benching guard D’Angelo Russell in favor of forward Jarred Vanderbilt. This adjustment leads to a unique starting lineup with James as the sole main ball-handler, supported by a frontcourt ensemble including Vanderbilt, Cam Reddish, Taurean Prince, and Anthony Davis.
Additionally, the team might face another setback with guard Gabe Vincent considering surgery for his injured left knee. This places an even greater playmaking responsibility on James, who, despite nearing 39, has frequently assumed the role of an informal point guard throughout his career. The effectiveness and duration of this strategy, spearheaded by coach Darvin Ham, remain to be seen.
