Lazio president hopes to extend growth decree until 2027

[Saba Sports News] According to Italian media reports, Lazio president Claudio Lotito has proposed a bill hoping to extend the growth decree until 2027. The Italian growth decree previously stipulated that when Italian clubs sign foreign players from abroad, the players’ salaries could enjoy a 50% tax reduction. However, this decree expired at the end of last year; thereafter, only players signed before December 31, 2023 can have their tax benefits extended for another two years, while newly signed players will not enjoy tax benefits. Notably, Lotito is not only the president of Lazio but also an Italian senator. This week, Lotito proposed an amendment to the tax decree seeking to extend the growth decree until 2027. This would help Serie A teams attract more foreign players and maintain the competitiveness of the league. Since Lotito became president of Lazio in 2004, the club’s performance has steadily improved, especially in recent seasons where the team’s form has been encouraging. In his view, Lazio has established a superior position in the city’s football landscape, especially as Roma’s poor performance further supports his viewpoint. According to the latest standings, Lazio is expected to challenge for a high position in Serie A again this season.
