[Saba Sports News] From January 7 to 12, the 2025 Malaysia Badminton Open, with a total prize pool of 1.45 million USD, is being held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. However, an unexpected situation occurred on the first day of the competition. While matches were ongoing, courts 2 and 3 experienced leaks, forcing the matches on those courts to be interrupted. Many viewers in the live broadcast room found the scene quite comical: the competition area was empty, with only a few large rags lying around, making it look as if the live signal had frozen. This awkward situation arose again following the leak incident at last year’s China Masters, and this time, the leak was significantly more severe. The venue for the Malaysian Open, Axiata Arena, is an indoor sports arena located in the Bukit Jalil National Sports Complex in Kuala Lumpur, with a capacity of 16,000 people. This is one of the larger multi-purpose sports venues in Kuala Lumpur. According to Wikipedia, the arena hosted a concert by Faye Wong in August 1999 and has since hosted concerts by many stars, including Leon Lai Ming, Jay Chou, Fish Leong, and Jacky Cheung. In 2024 alone, the venue hosted 13 concerts. According to the Singapore Straits Times, the leak was caused by heavy rain the day before, leading to significant water accumulation on the roof. Malaysia typically enters its rainy season in April, but unexpectedly faced such a situation in January this year.
