[Saba Sports News] The Badminton Association of Malaysia is set to welcome a new men’s singles badminton coach at the end of this month. Although the name has not yet been announced, the frontrunner is Kenneth Jonassen, the former head coach of the Danish national badminton team. Jonassen has coached the Danish national team for 11 years, with 8 years as head coach. He is well-known for guiding Viktor Axelsen to multiple major championship victories, including the 2017 World Championship and the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Recently, Malaysian badminton star Lee Chong Wei responded to this matter during a media interview, stating that players should focus on changing themselves. He emphasized the importance of mindset and self-discipline, pointing out that the current players’ situations and attitudes differ significantly from his time. He noted that coaches in the past did not consult players much, whereas now everything requires discussion with the players. Lee Chong Wei stressed that discipline is a key factor in becoming a world-class athlete; without it, one cannot become the best player.
