[Saba Sports News] This year, Malaysian men’s singles player Lee Zii Jia, who has been sidelined for an extended period due to injury, is still being considered by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) for the candidate list for the Thomas Cup to be held in Denmark next year. Lee Chong Wei, chairman of the BAM Performance Committee, confirmed that the association plans to expand its selection pool to strengthen the men’s singles lineup for the Thomas Cup. Although Lee Zii Jia’s world ranking has dropped to beyond 80, he is still under consideration. Lee Chong Wei revealed that several professional players will be invited to the Thomas Cup training camp, with Lee Zii Jia being one of the candidates. The BAM has not yet grasped the full extent of his recovery progress but hopes for his smooth rehabilitation. If his recovery goes well, Lee Zii Jia is expected to serve as the third men’s singles player, as the association places great importance on players’ experience in major tournaments. This season, Lee Zii Jia has been troubled by ankle and back injuries, participating in only five events before ending his season early. To achieve good results in the Thomas Cup, the BAM plans to start preparations early, including considering the possibility of sending the team to Denmark for a training camp ahead of time. National team singles coach director Kenneth Jonassen and doubles coach director Rexy Mainaky are currently finalizing the training structure and details.
