[Saba Sports News] Badminton player Liu Shengshu posted photos on social media preparing for the National Games, and former Chinese national badminton team head coach Li Yongbo made a rare appearance, sparking strong interest among fans. From the photos, it can be seen that Li Yongbo first gave advice face-to-face to Du Jing, who serves as a coach for the Liaoning badminton team, and then watched the training of Liu Shengshu and other team members together. The heartwarming scene prompted fans to leave messages and likes. Some fans commented: Three generations of the Chinese badminton team together; if you think about it that way, Liu Shengshu is truly Li Yongbo’s apprentice’s apprentice. Now 63 years old, Li Yongbo, during his athlete days, partnered with Tian Bingyi to win two Badminton World Championships men’s doubles titles and helped the Chinese team win three Thomas Cup titles. In 1993, Li Yongbo became the deputy head coach of the Chinese national badminton team. Facing a situation where the team lacked continuity between generations, he carried out sweeping reforms, promoted a group of young coaches, and nurtured champions who dominated the badminton world, such as Ge Fei/Gu Jun and Lin Dan. During Li Yongbo’s 24-year tenure as coach, the Chinese national badminton team won a total of 18 Olympic gold medals, 44 Badminton World Championships gold medals, five Thomas Cup titles, nine Uber Cup titles, ten Sudirman Cup titles, and six Badminton World Cup gold medals, amounting to a total of 92 “world champion” titles – a truly brilliant record.
