[Saba Sports News] According to French media reports, a senior executive of Lille was attacked by a Lens fan following last weekend’s Ligue 1 match. In the previous Ligue 1 fixture, Lille beat Lens 3-0 at home. About an hour after the game, the Lille executive and his wife were preparing to leave the stadium and tried to separate two people who were fighting near the ground. One of the Lens fans, who was intoxicated, asked the executive about his identity. Upon learning that he was a senior official of Lille, the fan went to the car park, waited near the executive’s vehicle, and then assaulted him. The Lens fan grabbed the Lille executive’s arm and headbutted him hard on the nose. Police quickly intervened and arrested the Lens fan, while the Lille executive was taken to a hospital emergency room for treatment and stayed there overnight.
The editor believes that this incident has once again sparked discussions about the fan management mechanism in Ligue 1. Fan conflicts have occurred in multiple past seasons, and the league authorities have repeatedly emphasized the regulation of on-site order.
