[Saba Sports News] The 2025 BWF World Badminton Championships will begin on August 25 in Paris, France. Malaysian badminton legend Rashid Sedik analyzed the men’s singles situation and claimed that world number one Shi Yuqi is a king of open tournaments, but lacks the temperament to perform well in big events. He tends to play poorly in the Olympics or the World Championships each time. Shi Yuqi has been in good form this season, winning three titles out of the four Super 1000 events on the BWF calendar – including the Malaysia Open, the All England, and the China Open, and he also won the Japan Open. At 29 years old, Shi Yuqi is tall, with powerful smashes and his impressive thigh muscles have become a topic of discussion. However, this intimidating player on the global stage has never won a singles title in a major tournament. Sedik admitted, “This year’s World Championships men’s singles may be the most unpredictable in history because none of the players this season have stood out, and the only one who did is not good at big events.” Sedik believes this is a chaotic era in badminton, with many strong players competing without any clear dominant figure. In his view, Shi Yuqi seems cursed. Not only in the Olympics and the World Championships, but even in the Asian Games and the Asian Championships, he hasn’t won a men’s singles title.
