Records show Foden came through Manchester City’s academy and stepped up to the first team in 2017. Having spent his youth and professional career solely at Manchester City, he has never completed a transfer or been sent out on loan.
To date, Foden has made 369 appearances for the City first team, registering 110 goals and 68 assists. He has claimed 20 trophies with the club, including one UEFA Champions League title and six Premier League crowns. Foden was once regarded as the most promising talent within Manchester City’s squad. However, his form has fluctuated over the past two campaigns. During the 2025–26 season, he featured 50 times across all competitions, starting 33 matches, and scored 10 goals alongside seven assists. He missed out on England’s squad for this summer’s World Cup due to poor form.
Even though his performances in the last two seasons fell short of expectations, Foden remains highly valued by Manchester City. The Athletic reports that the club held renewal talks with Foden’s representatives starting from late 2025. New head coach Enzo Maresca also views Foden as one of the cornerstones of his project. Foden has seen fewer starting opportunities in recent seasons, sparking widespread speculation over whether he would extend his contract, yet he has ultimately opted to stay at Manchester City.
