In a recent media interview, he publicly expressed his willingness to assist Max Verstappen whenever needed. He stated, ‘He no longer needs me, but I’m always here if he wants.’ This marks a warm continuation of their many years of mentor-mentee relationship.
The bond between them is the core foundation of their connection. Marko was instrumental in promoting Verstappen and has supported him throughout the years within the team. Verstappen also regards him as an important ally, creating a strong mutual trust between them.
I believe this represents a significant turning point for Verstappen. In the future, he will compete for the first time without direct assistance from Marko, needing to adapt more autonomously with the new team. He will shift from relying on guidance to leading strategies while facing pressure and scrutiny directly, making stability of mindset crucial.
The ease of access to off-track support will also allow him to plan for the future more rationally based on competitive logic, rather than being emotionally bound.
