[Saba Sports News] According to French media reports, Marseille is set to adopt a new club crest, yet the design has sparked controversy among fans. Olympique de Marseille will soon unveil a new emblem, but the known design has not won unanimous praise from all supporters. This change to the club’s visual identity has triggered widespread discussion. Rumours that Marseille would update its crest ahead of the 2026-2027 season leaked online several months ago. The current logo, which has been in use since 2004, will be replaced by a more streamlined design. The club’s 12th official crest in its history will be officially unveiled at a gala dinner on April 8th. Marseille’s club motto, along with the star featured on its kits and sporting apparel ever since their UEFA Champions League triumph in 1993, will be retained on jerseys and other official sportswear. The club has confirmed it will omit these elements on some merchandise lines, to create a more modern aesthetic for derivative products.
The editor believes that while some fans like this new crest, others are not satisfied with it. However, this is all part of the normal reaction, and we have to realize that no change — especially a modification to the club emblem — can please everyone.
