[Saba Sports News] The Dallas Mavericks just can’t catch a break with injuries.
Center Daniel Gafford went down with a knee injury in the second quarter of Monday’s game against the Sacramento Kings.
The 26-year-old big man was setting a screen when he accidentally collided knees with Kings guard Malik Monk. Silence fell over American Airlines Center as medical staff attended to Gafford, with the Mavericks’ broadcast summing up the moment in one word: unbelievable.
The team later ruled Gafford out for the remainder of the game with a left knee sprain. He finished with four points and three rebounds in 10 minutes of action.
Gafford’s injury is yet another blow to the Mavs’ depleted frontcourt, coming just one game after Anthony Davis suffered an injury that is expected to sideline him for weeks. Dallas is already without PJ Washington, Dwight Powell, and Dereck Lively II, making their big-man rotation even thinner.
The Mavericks entered the night with a 28-25 record, sitting 8th in the Western Conference playoff race. But with the Kings, Suns, and Warriors all just 1.5 games behind, Dallas’ growing injury woes couldn’t have come at a worse time.
