[Saba Sports News] British racing powerhouse McLaren announced a multi-year partnership with Sonic the Hedgehog. The collaboration will be based on the theme of “a global symbol of speed,” aiming to create creative interactions between the racing and gaming worlds to attract audiences of all ages. It is reported that this collaboration will run through Sonic’s “Racing Around the World” global event and continue into the 35th anniversary of Sonic and the 1,000th Grand Prix of the McLaren F1 team. Sega described this as a “reunion spanning three decades.” According to the report, in the 1993 European Grand Prix held at Donington Park in the UK, the event was sponsored by Sega under the name “38th Sega European Grand Prix.” At that time, Sega sponsored the Williams F1 team, and the cars of Alain Prost and Damon Hill were decorated with Sonic graphics. Both were considered strong contenders for the title, but the winner ended up being McLaren driver Senna. That day, Senna raised the “Sonic Trophy” on the podium, which is still preserved in the McLaren team archive.
