[Saba Sports News] In recent years, various F1 teams have been continuously exploring advanced technologies to enhance car performance. From cloud computing to artificial intelligence and machine learning, new technologies are changing the competitive landscape of F1 racing. With the rapid development of AI technology, teams are increasing their investment in this area. The reigning 2024 season F1 team champion Mercedes is enthusiastically embracing AI. According to Michael Bloomberg, at the McLaren Technology Center in Woking, England, this racing giant with a 60-year history is actively applying AI technology to enhance track performance. Dan Keyworth, McLaren’s director of business technology, stated that the technology center mainly uses AI in three areas: improving vehicle performance, optimizing daily operations, and commercial applications. AI tools provide F1 teams with new capabilities, including the ability to deeply simulate certain situations that may occur during a race, such as calculating the ideal pit stop duration for a vehicle or determining which new tires to use when replacing old ones. The accuracy of these simulation results has reached a level that is “almost frightening.”
