[Saba Sports News] On his show, Dan Le Batard shared the latest rumors about the Miami Heat, revealing that Heat President Pat Riley may be interested in reviving the pursuit of Kevin Durant.
“I don’t believe the Heat will be content by the trade deadline, still thinking they’re as good as the 76ers. Pat Riley, approaching 80, isn’t working to wait for another young team to develop. The Heat’s strategy has shifted to relying on younger players, a departure from Riley’s usual approach. The next move could involve assembling pieces to support a max contract for Jimmy Butler and attempting to acquire Kevin Durant again. That’s the direction they seem to be heading.”
The Miami Heat have always been an ambitious franchise, known for attracting star talent since the days of Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O’Neal. Currently, the team includes Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro, but they haven’t won a title since LeBron James’ era in 2013. Despite two Finals appearances, they finished 8th in the East last season with a 46-36 record and exited in the first round of the playoffs.
This offseason, the Heat aimed to upgrade their roster with players like Klay Thompson, Paul George, or DeMar DeRozan but instead lost key role-player Caleb Martin to the 76ers. With limited offseason moves, concerns are growing about Riley’s leadership at nearly 80 years old.
However, the situation could change dramatically if the Heat acquire Kevin Durant. Although Suns governor Mat Ishbia currently has no plans to trade Durant, the Heat have long been interested. If Durant becomes available, the Heat will likely make a move, potentially transforming into a leading force in the East alongside Jimmy Butler. Despite limited trade assets, the Heat’s ambition remains high, always seeking ways to improve.
