[Saba Sports News] The anticipation for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) is building, especially after the recent player auction in Dubai on December 19. MS Dhoni, leading the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a record-equaling fifth IPL title last year, might be playing his final season in the lucrative league. Dhoni, known for his legendary cricketing prowess, expressed in a recent event his desire to dedicate more time to the Indian Army post-retirement.
“I have never thought about it. I am still playing cricket. IPL I am still playing. It will be very interesting to see what I end up doing after cricket. I think for sure, I want to spend a bit more time with the Army because last few years I have not been able to do that,” MS Dhoni said in a video that has gone viral.
In a viral video, Dhoni discussed his post-cricket plans, highlighting his interest in spending more time with the Army, an area he couldn’t focus on in recent years due to his cricket commitments. Last season, after CSK’s victory over the Gujarat Titans, there was speculation about Dhoni retiring. However, he announced his intention to play one more season as a gesture to his fans.
Stephen Fleming, the head coach of CSK since 2009, mentioned in a press conference at the IPL 2024 auction that the team has been considering Dhoni’s successor for about a decade. Emphasizing Dhoni’s continued enthusiasm and commitment, Fleming suggested that as long as Dhoni retains his passion for the team, he will remain a central figure in the franchise.
