[Saba Sports News] If the Phoenix Suns decide to trade Kevin Durant this offseason, one particularly intriguing team could emerge as a suitor: the New York Knicks.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Durant and the Knicks have “mutual interest” in each other. Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday, Charania revealed that New York is among several teams Durant could potentially try to join if the Suns opt to move him.
“Back at the NBA trade deadline, there was a list of teams with mutual interest in Kevin Durant,” Charania said. “From my understanding, that includes Minnesota, New York, Houston, San Antonio, and Miami. I expect all of them to be in the mix this offseason.”
The Knicks would make for a fascinating destination. With a core that includes Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Mikal Bridges, they’ve built a strong foundation—but haven’t been able to break through against Eastern powerhouses like the Celtics and Cavaliers. Durant could be the piece that takes them to the next level.
While Phoenix hasn’t officially decided to move on from Durant, league insiders believe a trade is increasingly likely. The current Suns core hasn’t clicked as hoped, and trading Durant may be the only viable path to a reset.
Durant has averaged 26.6 points and 6.0 rebounds this season, though he may miss the remainder of the year due to a significant ankle injury.
