[Saba Sports News] On the evening of May 7th, official Badminton World Federation commentator Gill Clark (aka Oma Gill) apologized through social media to Liu Shengshu. The reason was that during the women’s doubles match of the Sudirman Cup, due to the camera cutting too quickly, Clark didn’t see Liu Shengshu shaking hands with the Korean women’s doubles team. As such, in the live broadcast commentary, she mistakenly said that Liu Shengshu did not shake hands with the Korean doubles pair, violating post-match etiquette. This led to numerous fans leaving messages on Clark’s social account demanding an apology from her, criticizing her for unprofessionalism in her commentary. In response, Clark stated that she had sent a private apology letter to Liu Shengshu. She sincerely hoped that those who had made insulting remarks could understand that, as humans, we are all prone to making mistakes. Some fans responded saying it seems that commentary work isn’t easy; even the slightest slip-up can lead to online harassment. Previously, a Youku commentator lost their job for denigrating Chen Yufei. Earlier still, CCTV commentator Tong Kexin also faced online abuse for questioning Shi Yuqi’s lackluster performance.
