[Saba Sports News] According to GPblog, Sergio Perez has stated that he has nothing to prove upon his return to Formula 1 with Cadillac. The Mexican driver believes the performances of his predecessor and successor at Red Bull Racing speak for themselves. At the end of 2024, Perez had to vacate his seat at Red Bull Racing; the team bought out his contract to let Liam Lawson take his place. However, Lawson was moved back to RB after just two Grand Prix weekends, and his replacement, Yuki Tsunoda, performed even worse than Perez did during his most difficult 2024 season. This, in a way, validated Perez’s own performance. At a Cadillac media event, when asked if the performances of Lawson and Tsunoda meant he felt he had less to prove, as they demonstrated that his time at Red Bull wasn’t as poor as previously perceived, Perez replied: “I don’t feel I have anything to prove, and it’s not just because of the current driver or the next driver in that seat. Being in that position, constantly adapting and building mental confidence, is really tough. It’s a very unique challenge. I feel I don’t have anything to prove. Look at the points they [Lawson and Tsunoda] scored over the season, I think it was five points in total. In that regard, I feel I don’t have to prove anything. For me, it’s more about coming back and enjoying the sport. I want to enjoy the sport I love, it has given me so much.”
