[Saba Sports News] According to the latest reports from French media, the 18 Ligue 1 clubs collectively generated €343.76 million in transfer income this summer, setting a new record high for the past ten seasons. It is reported that this record was achieved due to uncertainty around broadcast revenue, which led most Ligue 1 clubs to fear financial difficulties. Consequently, the summer transfer window in France was focused primarily on generating income. Relying on player sales to maintain financial health is a necessary but unfortunate move for Ligue 1, caused by poor broadcast revenue. While it addresses immediate financial needs, it poses numerous challenges for the league’s long-term development. Selling players brings in funds but directly weakens the team’s strength. For teams with European commitments like Monaco and Nice, selling players is more about plugging financial gaps than genuine squad reinforcement, which will inevitably affect their competitiveness in European competitions. The editor believes that large-scale player sales in Ligue 1 lead to a drain of talent, potentially reducing the league’s spectacle and competitive level, thereby affecting its brand value and appeal. In the long run, this could lead to a further decrease in broadcast revenue, creating a vicious cycle that is detrimental to the league’s sustainable development.
