[Saba Sports News] According to Spanish media reports, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) originally planned a Nations League victory celebration for September 2nd. However, due to the tragic passing of the Jota brothers, the day was instead dedicated to a memorial ceremony. The Nations League victory celebration has been postponed to the October international break. During the memorial service, Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa posthumously awarded the “Grand Collar of the Order of Sporting Merit” to Jorge Costa and Diogo Jota. The government also granted them the title of “Meritorious Athletes.” President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa stated: “Today’s ceremony carries two distinct forms of remembrance, yet both are equally filled with a love for life, joy in living, persistence in dreams, and the struggle to achieve them. They will forever live in our hearts, and these medals bear witness to their eternal significance.” FPF President Pedro Proenca said this was to honor the achievements of those who have illuminated Portuguese football: “We pay tribute this way to Jota, Andre Silva, and Jorge Costa. They will never be forgotten.”
