[Saba Sports News] Klay Thompson surprised many this summer when he left the Warriors to join the Dallas Mavericks. While the Lakers were a potential destination, former NBA player Rashad McCants suggests Klay avoided them to steer clear of chaos.
“Why didn’t Klay choose the Lakers?” McCants said. “I don’t need to ask him—I know the answer: ‘I’m cool on that circus over there.’”
After 11 years with the Warriors, Klay felt sidelined and underappreciated, especially as his role diminished and contract talks faltered. This led to an unexpected breakup with Golden State.
Though the Lakers were eager to sign him, Klay chose the Mavericks, possibly to avoid the immense pressure and scrutiny that comes with playing in Los Angeles, especially alongside LeBron James.
Klay, who’s familiar with the demands of a high-profile team, opted for a fresh start in Dallas, where he could play freely and connect more closely with his teammates.
Despite the Mavericks not winning a championship since 2011, their recent success has brought excitement, and Klay is ready to be part of that journey, with no regrets.
