[Saba Sports News] On Thursday, the Houston Rockets struck a noteworthy deal with the Memphis Grizzlies, securing Steven Adams in a trade that sent Victor Oladipo and three second-round draft picks to Memphis. Adams, currently sidelined for the season due to knee surgery, is in the midst of a 2-year, $25 million contract, with a salary of $12.5 million due for the next season. The Rockets pursued Adams for his defensive prowess, anticipating his contribution once he returns to full health.
Victor Oladipo, on the other hand, has been absent from the court this season following a ruptured patellar tendon incurred in April during the playoffs with the Miami Heat. After being traded to the Thunder and then to Houston in the Kevin Porter Jr. deal, Oladipo’s move to Memphis involves his expiring contract.
The Grizzlies’ gain in this trade primarily lies in the draft picks acquired: two second-round picks in 2024 and one in 2025, as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. This move is part of the Rockets’ broader strategy to rebuild and improve their performance, having signed Dillon Brooks and Fred VanVleet in the offseason. With these additions and now Adams on board for the next season, the Rockets aim to enhance their standing after three consecutive seasons with a winning percentage below .300. As of Thursday, Houston’s record stands at 22-25.
