[Saba Sports News] On the first day of the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam, Indian cricket’s rising star Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered a standout performance, scoring his second Test century on February 2. Dominating the English bowlers, the left-hander ended the day not out at 179* off 257 balls, hitting 17 fours and five sixes, propelling India to 336/6 at close. Shubman Gill was the next highest scorer with 34, as the rest of the Indian lineup struggled against England’s attack.
Rohit Sharma’s prior commendation for Jaiswal gained attention again after this innings. Sharma had earlier lauded Jaiswal for his double ton in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019 against Jharkhand, hinting he was the ‘Next Superstar’. This praise resurfaced as Jaiswal’s performance against England mirrored his earlier success. At 17, Jaiswal was the youngest male to hit a double century in List-A cricket, a feat that underlined his promise.
Following his impactful innings, Jaiswal shared his strategy of taking the game session by session, aiming to build on his score. “I was focused on playing through each session, particularly when they bowled well. Despite initial challenges like dampness, spin, bounce, and seam on the pitch, I aimed to capitalize on any loose deliveries. My goal is to double my score and contribute significantly to the team,” Jaiswal expressed, revealing his ambition for a double century on the second day.
Ending Day 1, India’s position was bolstered by Jaiswal and Ravichandran Ashwin, the last recognized batting pair, at the crease. Their objective is to extend their partnership and set a formidable first-innings total for England to chase.
