[Saba Sports News] Rudy Gobert found himself unexpectedly excluded from the All-Star selections for the Minnesota Timberwolves, despite his teammates Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards making the cut. Gobert expressed happiness for his teammates but couldn’t hide his disappointment over being overlooked. He attempted to stay positive, highlighting the upside of having extra time off, yet he couldn’t shake off feelings of being undervalued and disrespected.
Gobert remarked on the familiarity of being overlooked, stating, “It’s not the first time I’ve been taken for granted or disrespected. I’m happy at the end of the day I get to get some vacation.”
This snub came as a surprise to many, especially since the Timberwolves boast the Western Conference’s top record as of Saturday. The choice of Towns over Gobert for a second All-Star spot raised eyebrows, given Towns’ solid performance with an average of 22.7 points per game, but Gobert’s role as the defensive linchpin for one of the NBA’s leading teams was expected to earn him a spot.
Despite the snub, Gobert is recognized as a pivotal figure in the Timberwolves’ impressive performance, contributing significantly to the team’s success. Nonetheless, he must now accept his role as a key player without the added acknowledgment of an All-Star selection.
