In the video, they challenge themselves to race go-karts without snow chains on an ice lake, to which Russell captioned: ‘More challenging for car control than F1 on wet tracks.’
The chosen St. Moritz ice track is quite remarkable; it is one of the last two remaining natural ice racing venues in the world, with a history spanning a century. It has hosted events during the 1928 and 1948 Olympics. The smooth, unobstructed surface of the frozen lake, combined with the low temperatures during New Year’s, results in extremely low grip, demanding high precision in steering control and braking timing from the drivers, adding a professional-level challenge to the race.
I believe Russell’s reflection on the increased difficulty of car control on ice during the challenge highlights his professionalism as a top driver. Even while engaging in leisure activities, he instinctively focuses on car control techniques, and this sensitivity to his craft is one of the key reasons he can thrive on the top racing circuits.
