[Saba Sports News] On December 5, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) officially announced the “Nominees for the 2025 BWF Player of the Year Awards.”The nominees for the Men’s Player of the Year are: Anders Antonsen; Chou Tien-Chen; Kunlavut Vitidsarn;Shi Yu Qi.The nominees for the Women’s Player of the Year are: Yamaguchi Akane; An Se-young; Chen Yufei; Wang Zhiyi.
The nominees for the Men’s Doubles Team of the Year are: Aaron Chia Teng Fong / Soh Wooi Yik; Goh Sze Fei / Nur Izzuddin Rumsani; Astrup Kim / Anders Skaarup Rasmussen; Kim Wonho / Seo Seung Jae.
The nominees for the Women’s Doubles Team of the Year are: Baek Ha Na / Lee So Hee; Kim Hye Jeong / Kong Hee Yong; Liu Shengshu / Tan Ning; Tan Pearly / Thinaah Muralitharan.
The nominees for the Mixed Doubles Team of the Year are: Chen Tang Jie / Toh Ee Wei; Dechapol Puavaranukroh / Supissara Paewsampran; Feng Yan Zhe / Huang Dong Ping; Jiang Zhen Bang / Wei Yaxin.
It is reported that the awards will be announced during the pre-final banquet of the BWF World Tour Finals. In my opinion, Shi Yu Qi is highly likely to be named Men’s Player of the Year. Although his performance in the second half of the year was average, his strong showing in the first half, including a gold medal at the World Championships and three titles from Super 1000 tournaments, is very persuasive. As for the Women’s Player of the Year, An Se-young has demonstrated historical dominance, making her award a foregone conclusion.
