[Saba Sports News] Shubman Gill, recognized as a generational talent early in his career, has lived up to his potential since making his international debut in 2019. In 2023, he has been outstanding, consistently scoring runs across formats with textbook cricketing shots. He stands as India’s leading run-scorer in international cricket this year. Notably, Shubman surpassed Rohit Sharma’s record of hitting 43 sixes, the highest by any batter from a full-member nation in international cricket this year.
In the first ODI against Australia in Mohali, Shubman played a crucial role with a dazzling 74 off 63 balls, contributing to India’s five-wicket victory. All eyes were on the 24-year-old in the second ODI in Indore on September 24.
Although he started cautiously, he accelerated in the ninth over, smashing a four and a six off Sean Abbott. He continued the assault in the next over, bowled by Cameron Green, with another four and a six, taking his 2023 international sixes tally to 44 before rain halted play.
In the same match, Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed cheaply for eight by Josh Hazlewood, following his half-century in the first ODI. Shreyas Iyer, batting at No. 3, displayed courage and scored boundaries, achieving a fifty. He aims to capitalize on his quickfire start and post a substantial score, marking his highest score since returning from injury.
