[Saba Sports News] India opener Shubman Gill scored yet another glorious century in the second ODI of the ongoing series against Australia.
2023 has been a dream year for Shubman as he has accumulated 1,230 ODI runs in 20 innings, the most by any batter worldwide, with an average of 72.4.
Shubman has played 35 ODI innings so far in his career and holds the record for the most runs scored by a batter in as many innings.
Former South Africa player Hashim Amla held the record previously with 1844 runs. Shubman has now dethroned Amla, scoring 1917 runs in 35 innings with an average of 66.10 and a strike rate of 102.84.
The 24-year-old has become the seventh Indian batter after Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Shikhar Dhawan to hit five or more ODI centuries in a calendar year. In addition to today’s ton, he now features in the list of batters with five or more ODI centuries in a calendar year before turning 25, joining the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Graeme Smith, Upul Tharanga, and Kohli. Overall, Gill has hit six ODI centuries until now.
Moreover, in terms of innings taken since their debut, Gill (35 innings) now became the fastest Indian to tonk six hundreds in the ODI format. Dhawan, who took 46 innings, is second on the list.
