[Saba Sports News] Lakhwinder Singh, father of Indian cricketer Shubman Gill, recently revealed the unique training methods that helped his son excel in cricket, particularly against fast bowling. Lakhwinder trained Shubman himself, using a ‘Charpoy’ (a traditional Indian bedstead) to create challenging conditions. He would throw the ball onto the charpoy, making it skid and increase in pace towards Shubman, who would then practice hitting it with a single stump, honing his reaction time and precision.
This training contributed significantly to Shubman becoming adept at handling pace bowling, now recognized as one of India’s best batters in this aspect. Lakhwinder shared that he had Shubman play 500 to 700 balls daily to develop these skills.
The family’s move to Mohali from their village in Fazilka, near the India-Pakistan border in Punjab, was a strategic decision to provide Shubman with better training facilities and coaching. They relocated to be close to the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali, focusing on enhancing his cricketing abilities and fitness.
Lakhwinder emphasized the family’s commitment to Shubman’s cricketing career, stating that they dedicated 15 years to help him become a world-class cricketer. This dedication included sacrificing their work and missing family events to support his training and development fully.
