[Saba Sports News] In the F1 United States Grand Prix Sprint race, both McLaren drivers retired from the race. Team Principal Andrea Stella expressed his disappointment and implicitly criticized “an experienced driver” in connection with the incident. On the first lap of the Sprint at the Circuit of the Americas, Nico Hulkenberg, Oscar Piastri, and Lando Norris were involved in a battle into Turn 1. Although the stewards determined no further action was necessary regarding the collision, both McLaren drivers were forced to retire from the race, allowing championship rival Max Verstappen to secure victory. Speaking to Sky Sports F1 after the race, Stella said: “Our reaction is that we are disappointed that we couldn’t be part of the fight today. A first-lap incident led to two cars retiring. It’s surprising that some experienced drivers act with a lack of caution. Just a bit more caution, ensuring you get through the first corner without damaging other drivers’ cars, and then you carry on with your race. Overall, we are disappointed, but we take it on the chin. We are now focused on repairing the cars; there’s plenty of work to do, and then we will restart the weekend from there. I think from a competitiveness point of view, we are in a good position, so we hope we can just participate normally, race normally, and extract our full performance.”
