The first round of voting results for this year’s NBA All-Star Game, released on Thursday, revealed a notable change: Golden State Warriors’ star Curry is no longer the top vote-getter among Western Conference guards. Instead, he’s been overtaken by Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks, who leads him by nearly 60,000 votes. LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo lead the overall vote in the West and East, respectively.
At 35, Curry has been a consistent leader in the West guard category since 2014, except for 2020 when a hand injury sidelined him. However, Doncic has been gradually closing the gap, finishing second to Curry last season. The Warriors’ lackluster 16-17 start this season, which has been challenging for Curry, might be contributing to this shift.
While there’s still time for Curry to regain his lead with over two weeks of fan voting left, the initial voting results might suggest an impending change in the guard’s dominance.
