[Saba Sports News] The San Antonio Spurs are shaping up to be a thrilling team to watch this season, largely thanks to Victor Wembanyama’s promising sophomore year and a well-assembled roster that plays to his strengths.
They also have high hopes for Stephon Castle, the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, who showed flashes of his potential on Monday night.
In the third quarter of a preseason game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Castle took advantage of a defensive lapse, driving straight to the hoop and throwing down a powerful tomahawk dunk over rookie Alex Ducas.
The Spurs’ bench, including Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, and Julian Champagnie, erupted with excitement, while Wembanyama looked genuinely impressed by Castle’s athleticism.
Despite this impressive moment, the Spurs plan to bring Castle along gradually. He’ll turn 20 in November, and the team’s free agency signing of Chris Paul suggests they’re committed to easing him into a lead role.
Monday night, however, offered a glimpse of Castle’s potential when he’s at his best.
