[Saba Sports News] Steve Nash hasn’t coached in the NBA since his split with the Brooklyn Nets nearly two years ago, and it seems he’s not looking to return anytime soon.
Nash is among several basketball stars participating in Goran Dragic’s farewell game in Slovenia on Saturday. During a media session on Friday, the 50-year-old reflected on his coaching tenure with the Nets, calling it a “unique situation” and hinted he’s not eager to return to coaching, at least for now.
“Coaching was a great experience,” Nash said, via Cesare Milanti of Eurohoops.net. “But I never intended to be a career coach. I’m more focused on coaching my kids and teaching them life lessons. I’ve earned the right to choose my path, and that’s fulfilling. There are always projects and partnerships to keep me busy, but my priority is my family.”
Nash also spoke about the challenges of managing different personalities as a coach, noting how it differs from leading as a player—a role he excelled at during his Hall of Fame career.
Despite having no prior coaching experience, Nash was hired by the Nets in 2020 to lead a star-studded roster. Rumors suggested he clashed with some of those players, which may have contributed to his reluctance to coach in the NBA again.
Interestingly, Nash interviewed for another NBA head coaching job last year, showing he had some interest in continuing. However, it seems his focus has shifted elsewhere.
