[Saba Sports News] The 2025 Sudirman Cup World Badminton Mixed Team Championships will be held at the Phoenix Sports Center in Xiamen, China, from April 27 to May 4. Recently, the “Sudirman Cup” trophy was airlifted from the Badminton World Federation’s office in Kuala Lumpur to Xiamen. To mark the occasion, the organizing committee held an elaborate unboxing ceremony, with Olympic champion and former Chinese badminton player Ji Xinpeng serving as the guest to lift the trophy. Ji Xinpeng had participated in the 2001 Sudirman Cup. Since its inception, the Sudirman Cup has been held 18 times. The wooden base of the trophy is engraved with the list of champions since the first competition, with “CHINA” appearing 13 times, indicating that the Chinese badminton team has won the championship 13 times. It is known that the Sudirman Cup has been hosted in China six times, specifically in Beijing in 2005, Guangzhou in 2009, Qingdao in 2011, Dongguan in 2015, Nanning in 2019, and Suzhou in 2023. The Chinese team won the championship in all instances. The upcoming event in Xiamen marks the seventh time the tournament has been held in China and the first time it comes to Xiamen.
