[Saba Sports News] The Phoenix Suns continue their organizational shakeup. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that assistant general managers Morgan Cato and Trevor Bukstein will not be returning. This follows the firing of head coach Frank Vogel after a first-round sweep by the Minnesota Timberwolves. None of Vogel’s assistant coaches were retained, and the Suns have since hired Mike Budenholzer as the new head coach.
Cato and Bukstein had been deputies to GM James Jones, with Cato joining in 2022 and Bukstein since 2018. The Suns have made significant moves recently, such as the blockbuster trade for Kevin Durant, which paid off, and the trade for Bradley Beal, which has been problematic. Beal missed nearly 30 games this season, leaving Phoenix without a true starting point guard and with a hefty $161 million contract through 2027.
These ambitious moves were likely influenced by new owner Mat Ishbia, but the front office has mishandled other situations, leading to a significant change ahead of next season.
