[Saba Sports News] As The Hundred 2024 season approaches, teams have begun the player retention process, a key strategic phase for both the Men’s and Women’s competitions. In a major development for the Women’s Competition, each team now has an additional £100k for player salaries, with salary bands ranging from £50,000 to £8,000. Player selection is now exclusively through retention and The Hundred Draft, with teams allowed to retain up to eight players, paving the way for the Wildcard Draft.
In the Men’s Competition, salary structures remain as before, but there’s a tweak in selection dynamics. With an increase in England Men Centrally Contracted players to 17, teams can retain one as their nominated Central Contract player. This player becomes the 16th squad member with a £125,000 salary band, adding strategic depth to team compositions.
Flexibility is key in the Men’s Competition, allowing teams to retain Centrally Contracted England Men’s players as domestic players. If a team doesn’t retain a nominated Central Contract player, a draft ensures equitable distribution of such players. Each team can retain a maximum of ten players, with two slots in the three lowest salary bands reserved for the Wildcard Draft.
These changes in The Hundred 2024 signify an evolving landscape, offering a more engaging and competitive environment for both players and fans. The stage is set for an electrifying new season in this dynamic cricket tournament.
