[Saba Sports News] The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has updated the 2026 competition schedule, officially announcing that the WANG WENJIAO CUP China International Challenge will be held in Nan’an, Fujian, China from November 3 to 8, 2026. It is reported that as a BWF-certified international challenge event, this tournament will be included in the official points system, with the champion receiving 4000 ranking points. The competitive value and professional significance of this event should not be underestimated, as it will become an important competition for global badminton players to challenge their rankings and hone their skills.
According to records, in 1954, Wang Wenjiao returned to his homeland from Indonesia to revitalize badminton in new China. After returning, he studied and trained at the Central Institute of Physical Education, where he was selected for the national team. In 1957, he transferred to the Fujian team and held various positions, including coach and head coach of the national badminton team, vice president of the Chinese Badminton Association, and director of the Badminton World Federation. He trained excellent badminton players such as Tang Xianhu, Yao Ximing, Sun Zhi’an, and Luan Jin.On December 25, 2022, Comrade Wang Wenjiao passed away in Beijing due to illness at the age of 89.
The editor believes that naming this international challenge tournament after the Chinese badminton legend “Wang Wenjiao” not only pays the highest tribute to this outstanding figure but also serves as a transmission of the spirit of badminton.
