[Saba Sports News] According to reports from UK media, the latest data released by the Premier League’s Key Match Incident Group indicates an increase in the number of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) errors during the first half of this season. The data shows that there have been 13 VAR decision errors so far this season, a 30% increase from 10 errors during the same period last season. However, this is a significant reduction compared to 20 errors in the 2023-24 season and 23 errors in the 2022-23 season.
Among these 13 errors, most are categorized as “missed calls,” where VAR did not advise the referee to correct an incorrect decision; this situation increased from 7 instances last year to 11 this year. “Incorrect interventions” decreased from 3 to 2. Notably, the total number of overturned decisions after VAR intervention this season is 47, a decrease of about 17.54% compared to 57 last season. Additionally, the number of misjudgments made by the referee that did not meet VAR intervention standards has risen from 12 to 15.
The Key Match Incident Group specifically outlined the 13 errors this season, which include several controversial decisions. In terms of the impact on clubs, Chelsea has benefited the most from VAR errors this season, gaining from three decisions, particularly in their matches against Fulham and Bournemouth, where the outcomes could have changed due to misjudgments.
