Toto stated that he learned about Hamilton’s departure through his own channels and does not understand why Hamilton would change teams while Mercedes was still competitive. Some fans believe that Hamilton’s untimely transfer prevented Toto Wolff from pursuing some talented drivers and caused him to miss negotiation opportunities with drivers who signed agreements with other teams weeks earlier, such as Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris.
