[Saba Sports News] Tyrese Haliburton felt the need to step in after seeing a viral video of an Indiana Pacers fan facing hostile treatment in New York.
The video showed a fan wearing a Haliburton Pacers jersey being harassed and chased by a large group of Knicks supporters on the streets of New York, shortly after the Knicks’ second-round playoff win over the Boston Celtics on Friday night.
Appearing Monday on The Pat McAfee Show, Haliburton addressed the incident and revealed a thoughtful gesture he had planned.
The fan, identified as firefighter Hans Perez, joined the show via video chat, where Haliburton surprised him with the announcement that he would be flying Perez and a guest to Indianapolis for Game 4 of the Pacers-Knicks series at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Some critics noted that Perez may have provoked a reaction by wearing a Pacers jersey in the heart of Knicks celebrations.
But others applauded his bold loyalty to his team. Haliburton clearly sided with the latter view, reinforcing his growing reputation as one of the NBA’s class acts this postseason.
