[Saba Sports News] As F1 approaches the 2026 season, a brand new technological era is on the fast track to arrival. Recently, Max Verstappen confirmed that he has heard the sound of the new generation engine ignition developed jointly by Red Bull Powertrains and Ford. For the four-time F1 world champion, this is not just a simple audition; it symbolizes Red Bull’s official entry into a new phase of self-researched power units.
In 2026, F1 will undergo a comprehensive reform of chassis and engines. The cars will become lighter and smaller, with the introduction of active aerodynamic systems for the front and rear wings. The Drag Reduction System (DRS), which has been in use for many years, will also retire after the conclusion of the 2025 season.
Regarding power units, the new regulations require that internal combustion engines and electric power outputs each account for half, making energy management and release key factors in determining victory. Additionally, the internal combustion engine will utilize 100% sustainable fuel. In this context, the transformation of the Red Bull team is particularly noteworthy. With Honda shifting to provide power for the Aston Martin team, Red Bull has chosen to collaborate with Ford, marking the first time they will manufacture their own engine as a constructor to power both the Red Bull team and its sister team.
When asked about the new engine on the official Red Bull podcast, Verstappen thoughtfully commented that the engine sounds quite crisp and clear during bench testing. While the sound is not the focus of development, it is at least satisfying from an auditory perspective.
