[Saba Sports News] Recently, former Red Bull driver David Coulthard stated that while Max Verstappen has been linked with a future at Mercedes, Red Bull has the opportunity to prove its long-term value under the new regulations. It is well known that Verstappen held talks with Mercedes about a potential move for next year, but he has committed to staying at Red Bull until 2026. However, former Red Bull driver David Coulthard believes Verstappen will give the team a chance to prove they can succeed in 2026, or at least show the building blocks for long-term success. David Coulthard said: “There’s no black and white answer to this question. It’s very personal, isn’t it? But I believe in Max – I know him – and I absolutely believe in his integrity and loyalty. But he is a racing driver. He’s not here to do laps for fun. He has a commitment to the team. He will give the team a chance to provide him with the car they once did.” He also added: “It depends on Verstappen himself. But I guess he will be looking at ’26. If there are major problems with the Red Bull power unit, that would be concerning. If it’s less bad, say the power unit runs okay, but they are still struggling to adapt to the new regulations for the car, that might give him more time. But if they are struggling, of course he will go elsewhere. He has the right to go elsewhere. I don’t think anyone in the team would be offended by that.”
