[Saba Sports News] After the South Africa tour, India have their last T20I assignment before the next year’s World Cup scheduled against Afghanistan.
With the series starting on January 11, the squad announcement will be made within a few days. Prior to that, the chairman of the national selection committee Ajit Agarkar has flown to Cape Town, where India will play their upcoming Test match versus South Africa.
As reported by PTI, Agarkar will discuss with Virat and Rohit about their future in the T20I set-up. According the the report, both veterans are eager to don the blue jersey in the T20 World World Cup 2024, scheduled in June-July in the Caribbean and the USA.
The duo last played a T20I in the World Cup 2022 semi-final against England.
Moreover, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will keep around 25-30 T20 specialists in the scheme of things for the World Cup. The national board will assess these players’ performances in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
