[Saba Sports News] The Golden State Warriors may be eyeing a roster upgrade this summer as they aim to stay in the championship mix with their aging core.
One name being floated as a potential fit is Boston Celtics point guard Derrick White.
On a recent episode of The Zach Lowe Show, The Ringer’s Logan Murdock mentioned White as a player Golden State could target. Murdock believes the Celtics guard has the skill set and demeanor that would mesh well with the Warriors’ system.
“Another guy I think you should look at for the Warriors going forward is Derrick White,” Murdock said. “That’s something the Warriors are looking at right now, especially with Boston expected in league circles to have some kind of fire sale or reset. He’s someone who can defend and calm things down.”
The Celtics are reportedly open to retooling the roster this offseason. With Jayson Tatum facing a long-term injury and Boston projected to exceed the luxury tax threshold, tough decisions may be on the horizon.
White, who inked a four-year, $125.9 million extension last offseason, would be a hot commodity if made available. Known for his elite defense and efficient shooting, he averaged a career-best 16.4 points per game this past season.
The Warriors, meanwhile, are navigating the twilight years of their dynasty. Stephen Curry is now 37, while Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler (recently linked to Golden State) are both 35.
As they weigh possible roster moves, including targeting a marquee star, White could be a more attainable and seamless addition for another title push.
