[Saba Sports News] JJ Redick’s new role as head coach may mean the end of his podcasting career.
Los Angeles Lakers beat writer Dan Woike appeared on “The Dan Patrick Show” and discussed whether LeBron James’ podcast with Redick would continue now that Redick is officially the Lakers’ head coach.
“I can’t imagine it’s gonna continue,” Woike said of the podcast. “Sad, right? We might get a season finale episode … Who knows what’s going to happen?
“He’s gonna have to adjust,” Woike added. “He’s gonna have to learn how to be interested in quarter zips, like all the rest of these guys on the NBA sidelines now. He’s gonna have to focus on that energy. The Lakers think they’re hiring a serious basketball mind, not a podcaster.”
James and Redick launched their podcast, “Mind the Game,” in March. The show, which has been popular for its NBA analysis, has aired 10 episodes, with the last one on June 5. The podcast was seen as a precursor to Redick becoming the Lakers’ head coach, a role he officially accepted on June 20.
Given the demands of NBA head coaching, especially for a newcomer like Redick, continuing the podcast seems impractical. It could detract from his coaching duties and potentially reveal team strategies. Other than a possible farewell episode, it looks like “Mind the Game” might be over for now.
