[Saba Sports News] Liverpool star Florian Wirtz has recently been named the German Footballer of the Year for 2025 by Kicker, an award that was widely expected. Wirtz won with an overwhelming margin of 191 votes, beating second-place Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Olise by 110 votes. Wirtz rose to fame at a young age, helping Leverkusen win their first-ever Bundesliga title and was named the Bundesliga Player of the Season. He also holds the record for the fastest goal scored by a German international and helped Germany U21 win the U21 European Championship. This award is a recognition of Wirtz’s outstanding skills and his role as a representative of the new generation of German footballers. Last year, Wirtz performed well in the German Footballer of the Year voting, finishing just 39 votes behind Toni Kroos and coming in second. Although he received fewer votes this year by over 50, due to changes among other candidates, he still managed to win. This can be seen as a form of compensation for his close miss last year.
