[Saba Sports News] The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has officially approved the request submitted by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) to activate the world ranking points protection mechanism for Daniel Marthin, who suffered a knee injury during the Sudirman Cup in 2025. As per the regulations, Daniel will retain his world ranking points as of May 16, 2025 — 64,185 points. This score will remain valid throughout the duration of the points protection period. The protection began on May 16, 2025, when PBSI initially filed their application. During this period of protection, Daniel will be unable to compete until August 16, 2025, totaling three months. After his return to competition, Daniel can use this “protected points” within six months to enter tournaments. If it exceeds six months, he will revert to using his current unprotected ranking points. Daniel and his partner Muhammad Shohibul Fikri currently hold the 10th position in the world rankings. The duo won second place at the 2025 Swiss Open Men’s Doubles, mixed team gold at the 2025 Asian Mixed Championship, and second place at the 2025 Thailand Masters Men’s Doubles.
