[Saba Sports News] It may have taken until his fifth NBA season, but Zion Williamson appears to have achieved peak physical condition.
According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN’s “The Hoop Collective,” the New Orleans Pelicans’ star has undergone a significant weight loss over the past three months. “I’ve got people in New Orleans telling me that since December, when the In-Season Tournament happened, that Zion Williamson has lost 25 or more pounds,” Windhorst reported, as per Bleacher Report. “His performance has been excellent. He’s playing fewer minutes, and I think that helps as well. But I’ve got people telling me he’s lost 25 pounds.”
At 23 years old, Williamson, officially listed at 284 pounds, likely now weighs under 260 pounds. His recent stellar on-court performance supports this transformation, with Williamson averaging an impressive 23-7-6 line since the All-Star break.
This improved conditioning marks a significant development for Williamson, who has grappled with weight and dietary issues throughout his NBA career. Even as recently as the In-Season Tournament in December, criticism of his physical appearance persisted. However, it seems Williamson is finally getting his health on track, possibly fueled in part by weight-related incentives in his Pelicans contract.
